Is your school or organisation making a huge difference with technology? Is ICT transforming the way that learners learn, parents communicate and staff work? If so, then Becta wants to hear from you!

Now entering their fifth year, Becta’s ICT Excellence Awards provide a great opportunity to not only celebrate the amazing work of schools, local authorities and other supporting organisations but to share the experiences of those at the forefront of the use of technology in learning.

If you want to share your story enter the ICT Excellence Awards 2010. For information on the criteria, and to access the online entry forms, go to www.becta.org.uk/excellenceawards.

In-school traiining is the better way to get your needs met

Courses about data logging experiments and applications, school year 2009 - 2010
If you wish to see your uses of data logging in school science we've a range of easy to hard investigations, and Roger Frost is the guy to call to help you do them. He has run courses for 20 years and still holds enthusiasm for finding activities that will chime with the needs of expert and regular science teachers. School-based courses are extremely good value: you can bring along all or some of the department and there is only one person's travel to pay, unlike an away course. What's more your own support staff and equipment is exercised. But we can bring what's needed. Phone for a price that is ridiculously fair and click the heading for course and contact details.

Roger Frost still writes about data logging for various media but organisations like ASE INSET Services who he worked for have gone and left a void in the public courses you could go to. We could give any number of reasons for this but the ability to get out of school for a course is a strong reason. Another reason was that what that specialised courses (e.g. for a certain brand; or a subject or level) needed to run but they recruited ones and twos. If anything, this experience taught us that in-school training could focus on what individuals wanted.

Getting the most from digital technology in the classroom

Running at The Sheffield college - good venue - easy parking -
Dates
7th November 2006
3rd July 2007

This workshop will allow participants to explore the best way to utilise the knowledge and skills which your students bring to their classroom. Your learners use digital cameras, music players, usb drives and mobile phones - but do you even begin to connect with their expectations of what technology is useful for? More to the point, how might you tap into the technology to enhance your teaching and the associated learning?
course flyer from Sheffield College - pdf
This very hands-on day features a steady input to develop the skills to use photos,
video and sound. We will assemble them using commonly available software applications such as Firefox, Microsoft Office and freely acquirable photo gallery software. You will work with a choice of devices such as camcorders, digital camera and webcams that your learners might use in mini-projects or you might use to create a lesson. Equally you may opt to bring and use your own items and get to grips with them.
By the end of the day you will have created some enviable media projects and have
gained skills and knowledge to put the skills acquired into creative use in your
teaching.
Topics to be covered:
• advice on ways to work round practical constraints in school/College
• case studies, curriculum uses, teaching strategies and good practice
• how these technologies can help to enrich learning and enliven lessons
• technology applications to both motivate reticent students and extend capable learners.

Data Logging for Technicians - ASE INSET SERVICES

15/06/2005 Click title to apply

Summary
This popular, practically-based workshop provides hands-on-experience and aims to update you on what is available, and how best to organise and get the equipment used at your school. Throughout the day you will undertake a range of experiment-based activities with clear guidance. By the end you will know the tricks and tips which will enable you to run several experiments reliably in school. LogIT, Data Harvest and Insight equipment is provided or you are welcome to bring your own kit.
Outcomes
By the end of this course you will have gained a healthy measure of success with technology. You will have used two data logging systems, and be able to use them to monitor changes. In so doing you will appreciate the similarities between systems when connecting them to a PC, when logging data away from a PC and curing hiccups. You will have used different sensors, tried different experiments and met different problems. You should have used a variety of tips for managing data logging equipment, heard reports on what works and had your questions answered with authority.Target audience

National Meeting for Teachers of Chemistry 2005

Annual National Meeting for Teachers of Chemistry

On 29 June 2005 The Royal Society of Chemistry holds their Annual National Meeting for Chemistry Teachers in the Lakeside Conference Centre, Aston University, Birmingham.

Roger Frost's session:

The Chemistry of Multimedia
Roger Frost (Dataloggerama)

Though there is much software available, there is a chemistry to what works and fits in a lesson: many syllabus topics simply merit a model, a mechanism or an ‘interactive’ to explain things efficiently. In this workshop Roger will demonstrate a set of new 2-minute teaching tools to cover the gaps left by existing software. The tools not only cover the syllabus parts often missed, they let you use other resources and tailor the topics for your teaching scheme with very little effort.
